Fitness & Dance Activities
Fitness classes are open to residents of Belmont and surrounding towns, and targeted especially for participants age 50+. Beech Street Center classes are financially self-sustaining, with costs intended to cover instruction and supplies without profit. Scholarships funded by the Friends of the Belmont Council on Aging are available for Belmont residents with financial hardship -- please contact Interim Director, Brandon Fitts, to apply.

Pickleball

Core Strengthening
Thursdays: 10:00 a.m. via ZOOM June '24 cost: $44 for 4-class session With an emphasis on utilizing core muscles and best training practices, we will strengthen and tone all the body's major muscles: abdominals, gluteal muscles, hips, thighs, and upper body—some standing exercises, but primarily a mat-based class. A set of hand weights and mats (or substitutes) would be helpful. |
Balance & Strength
Tuesdays: 2:30 - 3:30 p.m. Fridays: 2:30 - 3:30 p.m. June '24 cost: $40 for 4-class session (T); $30 for 3-class session (F) (No class 6/14) This class focuses on fall prevention and is for anyone who is concerned about their loss of balance. Half of the class time will be spent on weight training to build strength and the other half will focus on balance exercises to improve mobility and control. |
Gentle Yoga
Wednesdays: 2:15 - 3:15 p.m. June '24 cost: $30 for 3-class session (No class 6/19) Exercise using a series of gentle stretches, breath awareness, and tension tightening and releases. As the body and mind relax, a return to the natural state of balance and internal stillness occurs. Bonnie Randall is a Certified Yoga instructor from the Kripalu Institute. Strength & Flexibility
Mondays and Wednesdays: 1:30 - 2:30 p.m. Fridays: 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. via ZOOM June '24 cost: $24 for 4-class session (F), $18 for 3-class session (M & W; no class 6/17, 6/19) (sign up for one or more classes, days are not interchangeable) Based on chair exercises, this class focuses on limbering up through a range of motion exercises for all body areas. Various equipment, including resistance bands, hand weights, and ankle weights are used to strengthen and tone targeted muscles. |
Tai Chi
Wednesdays: 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. June '24 cost: $30 for 3-class session (No class 6/19) Learn essential forms of Tai Chi to help improve balance, posture and reduce stress. Studies have shown that seniors doing Tai Chi can benefit by increased circulation and lowered blood pressure. Zumba Gold
Fridays: 12:00 - 1:00 p.m. June '24 cost: $15 for 3-class session (No class 6/28) Perfect for active adults, age 50+, who are looking for a modified Zumba® class that recreates the original moves you love at a lower-intensity. Seated yoga is a gentle form of yoga that is done sitting in a chair or using a chair for support . Research shows that seated yoga done on a regular basis improves flexibility and overall health. Through gentle stretching and conscious breathing the body and mind return to balance. Maximum 14 participants. Must be able to interpret instructions and have safe balance to participate.
