Medical Equipment Loan Program
Belmont Council on Aging's medical Equipment Loan Program serves about 45 families per year, distributing donated medical equipment for short-term or long-term use. If in stock, equipment is available to anyone who needs it. To ask about donating or borrowing equipment, please call 617-993-2989.

The Belmont Fire Department, Fire Prevention Coordinator, Capt. Dave DeMarco, will be conducting In-Home Fire Safety Visits. He can offer valuable information and suggestions on how to make your home safe from fires by checking fire alarm systems and smoke & carbon monoxide detectors. He can provide education on residential home safety for sprinklers, cooking, heating, smoking, candle usage and fire escape planning tips. Our Social Worker, Janet, will accompany him on these visits. Call to schedule an In-Home Safety Visit: 617-993-2983

In the best of circumstances, our golden years are graced with increased wisdom, financial stability, recreation and good company. In reality, getting older is often marked by many age-related losses – of health, of independence, of social connections & of dreams. Join your peers to discuss these challenges and the ways you cope with them.

Do you want to learn more about loss and grief? This informational session will explore various forms of loss and grief, define what is normal, and suggest coping strategies. The presentation will include useful handouts, an opportunity for questions and discussion, and a quiet meditation. The presenter, Anne Marie Mahoney, has offered bereavement programs at the Beech Street Center as well as area churches. Cost: Free.
File of Life Cards
Typically stored on a refrigerator door or other prominent location in the home, a File of Life card contains your emergency contacts, medications, health issues, etc. and enables medics to obtain a quick history during an emergency. Call the COA at 617-993-2970 or stop by our front desk to arrange getting a File of Life card for your wallet and your refrigerator.
